Mr Sticky loves Mac n Cheese so much that I think he would marry it. If marrying food was legal.
Every time he saw Mac n Cheese on a menu during our recent trip to the USA, he had to have it. Even when he didn’t feel like it. That’s commitment.
During my research on New York, I found out about S’MAC – otherwise known as Sarita’s Macaroni & Cheese. Yep, you guessed it. A diner that ONLY serves Mac n Cheese.
Mr Sticky could not believe his ears!
S’MAC is located in Manhattan’s East Village, in a not-too-trendy-it-hurts neighbourhood. It’s a friendly, local joint that’s been serving MACs since 2006.
We hustled up on a week day at just before midday and it was surprisingly busy. This could only mean one thing – epic Mac n Cheese was going to happen.
Mr Sticky was at this point frothing at the mouth with so much choice! The MACs come in four sizes – Nosh, Major Munch, Mongo and Party and there is a variety of options from classic to adventurous. You can also build your own MAC with any number of cheeses and fillings.
S’MAC has cleverly anticipated the “GIMME ONE OF EVERY KIND!!” and created a S’MAC Sampler which features eight of their most popular MACs. This was definitely the best choice for trying maximum MAC for your money.
The S’MAC Sampler has: All-American, 4 Cheese, Cheeseburger, La Mancha, Cajun, Napoletana, Apline and Parisienne. It’s fantastic value at $16.00.
When the MAC arrived I actually gasped with anticipation and Mr Sticky was in pure food heaven. Dr. Pepper and Mac n Cheese = Mr Sticky’s idea of a perfect lunch.
We received a little pie chart diagram so we could check off what MAC was what.
I loved the gooey-oozing gruyere cheese and bacon of the Alpine. How can you not be crazy for that cheese string?
Other favourites were: Cajun (cheddar and pepper jack cheese, sausage, capsicum, onions, celery and cajun seasoning), the classic All-American and, surprisingly, the La Mancha (manchego cheese with fresh fennel and onions).
Pretty sure Mr Sticky savored every last bite!
We demolished this baby between the two of us and were incredibly well-fed. A guy at the table next to us was tucking into one on his own at full speed, but I would definitely recommend sharing.
Have a lactose or gluten intolerance? No worries! S’MAC has options for gluten-free pasta/breadcrumbs and reduced lactose or vegan/dairy free.
The before and after shot – totally stuffed with Mac n Cheese.
If you find yourself in Manhattan, take yourself to S’MAC for lunch and indulge in some Mac n Cheese like you never had as a child!
