I love a good short cut in the kitchen. Something that makes you go “Huh, Why didn’t I start doing this before?”
I wouldn’t say that any of these are life changing tips, but they are simple tricks that will make your life in the kitchen just that little bit easier.
Baking tips and tricks #1 – Use a mezzaluna to quickly chop up ingredients like nuts, chocolate or dried fruit.
A mezzaluna is a double curved blade with a handle on both ends and is commonly used to chop up herbs.
If you don’t have one of these – go buy one because they are awesome! Or at the very least, ask Santa to put one in your stocking this Christmas.
Baking tips and tricks #2 – Grate your butter.
There is nothing more frustrating than having to wait around for butter to soften on a winter’s day!
I am pretty impatient and can’t wait that extra 30 mins for the butter to be a soft enough to use so I choose to grate my butter.
Grating your butter will make it quicker to cream, mix, rub together for doughs, etc.
Baking tips and tricks #3 – Divide cupcake batter with an ice cream scoop.
Using an ice cream scoop to divide your cupcake batter is the only way to fill cupcake cases!
It means you get even distribution of the batter so cupcakes turn out the same height, limits the mess of batter falling off the spoon and also, speeds up the process.
